While Marnie officially retired after teaching at a school in Sarasota for 15 years, she remains active coordinating UnidosNow’s Parent Leadership Program.

Marnie spent her first 18 years living in South America and attending local schools there. Her first experience of living full time in the United States was when she came to college. She holds a BA in Spanish Literature and an MA in ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language).

Teaching and building community have always been Marnie’s passions. While teaching high school students in Maryland, she also worked with a then migrant Guatemalan community to help facilitate an integration process into the rural area where she lived.

While Marnie officially retired after teaching at a school in Sarasota for 15 years, she remains active coordinating UnidosNow’s Parent Leadership Program. In this role, she has been teaching Life Skills and ESOL classes to parents at two different schools since 2016.

Si bien Marnie se retiró oficialmente después de enseñar en una escuela en Sarasota durante 15 años, sigue activa coordinando el Parent Leadership Program (el Programa de Liderazgo para Padres) de UnidosNow.

Marnie pasó sus primeros 18 años viviendo en América del Sur y asistiendo a escuelas locales allí. Su primera experiencia de vivir a tiempo completo en los Estados Unidos fue cuando llegó a la universidad. Es licenciada en Literatura Española y tiene una maestría en ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language).

Enseñar y construir comunidad siempre han sido las pasiones de Marnie. Mientras enseñaba a estudiantes de secundaria en Maryland, también trabajó con una comunidad guatemalteca entonces migrante para ayudar a facilitar un proceso de integración en el área rural donde vivía.

Si bien Marnie se retiró oficialmente después de enseñar en una escuela en Sarasota durante 15 años, sigue activa coordinando el Programa de Liderazgo para Padres de UnidosNow. En este cargo, ha estado enseñando habilidades para la vida y clases de ESOL a padres en dos escuelas diferentes desde el 2016.
