Undocumented/DACA Students

Definitions

DACA- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

  • To qualify, students have to meet certain criteria

  • Currently not allowed to sign up only renew

  • Grants driver’s licenses & working permits

TPS- Temporary Protected Status- Protection granted for people to live and work legally in the U.S.

Undocumented- People who live in the U.S. without immigration status


Can I apply to FAFSA?

  • Any student with a social security number (SSN) can complete the FAFSA

  • People with DACA and TPS have a SSN

  • Parents documentation status does NOT matter. If they do not have a SSN, type in 000-00-000

  • If the student filling out the FAFSA does not have a Social Security Number, they cannot complete the FAFSA

What can I do if I do not have a Social Security Number?

  • Apply to college!

    • In the state of florida, as long as you are a resident you qualify for in-state tuition, which is much cheaper than paying as an international student

  • Explore your options locally

    • Work while you go to school to pay your way through school

    • Start off at a local school that might be cheaper and then transfer to a university

  • Explore your options nationally

    • Look into private schools outside of Florida that offer aid to undocumented students 

    • Apply for scholarships!
